Paying it forward…

Because of my awesome readers, HOPELESS made #1 Best Seller on Amazon!

I cannot even begin to say what this means to me, so I won’t even try.  I’ll quote Holder and say this.  “You don’t need words, you need actions.”

Which brings me to the meat of my very last blog post of 2012.  I have SO many people I wish I could thank individually.  But there are three groups of people that I feel had a huge hand in the way my year has turned out and I want to personally thank them by donating 100% of the income from HOPELESS from now until the last minute of 2012 to them. About the next 30 hours to be exact.

The first group I want to thank is the Main Street Theater in Sulphur Springs, Tx.   It was last year in November of 2011 that my son decided to audition for a part in the play CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN.  He got the part and it was there, sitting at his rehearsals, that I got the idea to write my first book.  I honestly believe that without seeing the passion these people had for their creativity, I don’t think I would have developed the craving to fuel my own passion.  And sadly, the director and a huge supporting member of the Community Players passed away this week.  In honor of her passion and as a thank you to the Theater, I am donating 1/3 of my sales from here to the last minute of 2012 to the Theater.

The second group that deserves a huge thank you are The Avett Brothers.  Without their music and incredible lyrics to inspire me to “go be it,” I would have never followed after that dream. So to show my thank you to the passion they pour into their own creativity, I’m donating 1/3 of my sales from here to the last minute of 2012 to a charity that is close to their hearts, the Vickie S. Honeycutt foundation.

And for my town.  I grew up in a very small town and still live here.  I love it here.  I love the people, I love the school, I love the teachers.  I went to Saltillo High School from Kindergarten through 12th grade and loved every single year of it.  1/3 of the proceeds will go to Saltillo ISD.

Regardless of my ranking, how many books I sell, how many people read them…I just need to close out this year by saying thank you to every single person reading this, because you somehow had a hand in this epic year.  And I hate the word epic, but there isn’t a substitute for it that would be good enough.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for 2012.  The most EPIC year of my life.

Update–A huge thanks to everyone for making the last day of 2012 the best ever.  $30,000 total is now being donated to the three groups above. Thank you everyone for your support this year!!!

  23. this is awesome.. i dont normally do the whole commenting on authors pages but i feel this warrants it. i was introduced to slammed through bloggers constantly posting about it, i devoured it in less than a day followed up by point of retreat which are 2 of the only books ive ever read that had me ugly crying in the middle of the beach around tons of people but thats ok. i then gave my friend the book and she too devoured it .. the second hopeless came out all plans were cancelled i was so excited, it was one of the most amazing things ive ever read. you have an amazing talent i look forward to more of your words in the future .. congratulations on all your accomplishments theyre well deserved!!

  24. Yes, thank you for making my 2012 so wonderful! I love that you’re donating money to people who really need it! God bless you!

  25. That was beauiful Colleen – I think you are an amazing person and author and you deserve all this love and happiness being sent your way. Many congrats on your success – it really is so deserved! I recommended your book to a friend who finished it today and said she MUST write a sequel! Not sure what you have planned but whatever you do, I am sure it will be as wonderful as you are! Many blessings for 2013!

  26. I just have to say, you are truly amazing and absolutely deserved the year that you had. Congrats on everything that you’ve achieved this year!!

  27. This is exactly why you’ve had the success you have, aside from writing stories that touch the heart. You get back what you give out. You know it. You practice it. You live it. Now, that’s an amazing example to set.

Best wishes to you in the new year. Congratulations on your well-earned success, but, more importantly, kudos to you for handling it with such grace and generosity!

  28. You are such an amazing person!!! Thank you for starting my love of reading this year!! I really never read, and certainly didn’t have the passion for reading I have now until a friend suggested we read your’s based on an overall 5 star rating on amazon! We both started reading them and became your fans immediately! I feel so blessed to have won signed copies of Slammed and Point of Retreat!! They mean so much to me!! I will forever sing your praises and recommend anything you write! Thank you for being such a thoughtful and generous person… It makes me love you even more! Congrats on all of your successes!

  29. I have read Slammed, Point of Retreat and Hopeless… All 3 books were SO good. I thoroughly enjoyed them all and recomend them to all of my “reading” friends. You really do deserve all of the success you have received this year!! Thank you for your wonderful stories and characters and for introducing me to my new favorite…The Avett Brothers!!! Keep those books coming!!

  30. From one of your biggest teacher fans … thank you for remembering your roots. We don’t often hear from/about many of our students after they leave our classrooms. I can only imagine how impressed and proud your former teachers are of your success.

While my students are too young for your books (I have sixth graders), I have recommended you to lots of colleagues, as well as my ‘new adult’ aged nieces.

Here’s wishing you continued success in 2013.

  31. Thank you for sharing your passion and amazing talent and blessing my life this year. And thank you for the great gifts (Slammed & Point of Retreat) I was able to share with my bff’s for Christmas this year! Now I don’t have to be Slammed-psycho by myself b/c they’re all as crazy for your books as I am now!

  32. Go ahead and ugly cry Colleen….We think you’re beautiful-a beautiful person inside and out and what you share with us through your writing is just indescribable. You deserve every moment on every blog, FB page, Tweet, bestseller list and everywhere else you find yourself. Thing is, if you cry, we’ll cry right beside you and then we’ll prop you up, make you smile and stand beside you as you begin a new journey with a new novel filled with your love and devotion! Then we’ll take it back out, promote it, scream about it, push it up the bestseller list again and again because we believe in you THAT much!! Happy New Year and congratulations on such an amazing 2012!

    Lysa-Just My Opinion

  46. That’s very generous!! if i had know that i would have waited to buy Hopeless today because i bought it yesterday, anyways i wish you and the rest of your readers a happy new year!!

  47. Wow, Colleen, I just read Hopeless and WOW. It was “recommended” to me by Amazon (don’t you love how they do that?!?) – I haven’t been a blog follower and had no clue it was coming out (bad me!). Anyway, when I saw your name attached to it, I KNEW – knowing nothing about the story line/plot – that I just HAD to read it! I downloaded it and immediately got down to business. I was happy and brokenhearted at the same time. I can not tell you the way your books make me feel. Your characters have such a way about them that we can not help but love them. Like they are our friends, or we’d like them to be. Like we know them on a deep, personal level. That says everything about your writing, my friend! I loved the Slammed/Point of Retreat books – and am dying to read This Girl – whenever it comes out.

There have been a few books that I’ve downloaded to my Kindle and then HAD to have the actual book as well: Obviously, your prior mentioned books – and I will obviously be getting Hopeless too, ALL of the John Green books, Easy by Tamara Webber, Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire – and, HELLO, I totally can’t wait to get Walking Disaster too!!, the Hush Hush books by Becca Fitzpatrick, and I’m working on all of the Cassandra Clare books as well ;). Anyway, I never write to authors to praise them (well, I did write to Tamara Webber – because, well, I HAD to!) And I think it’s kinda a dick move not to. Your books have seriously touched me deeply. They all have made me feel – and thank you for that. I have loved them all – and I will always read anything you write. Thanks for your creative spirit and I hope 2013 is even MORE butterflying amazing for you! God bless ya!

  48. Colleen, you are one of the most amazing people ever!! I have loved all of your books, and I can’t wait to see what 2013 brings!!! Getting to meet you in Atl was the highlight of my blogging career :) You may not like the word, but EPIC is exactly what you are.

  49. Once again you show how butterflying amazing you are! THANK YOU for your beautiful stories and for being a beautiful person. May you have an even more epic year to come.

  50. You are an amazing person!! Not only are you a wonderful author but you have a big heart to go along with it :) You butterflying rock! Congrats on the number one slot you deserve it and much more! Happy New Years and keep the wonderful books coming.

  51. I think it is wonderful you are giving back but feel you have given so much pleasure to people with your books already. You are a wonderful author. I have read Slammed and Point of Retreat multiple times and enjoy them both more each time. We as readers say THANK YOU for the wonderful books. You deserve all you are getting and Hopeless deserves to be #1.
Happy New Year to you and your family! Hope for more books from you in the future.

  52. Wow Colleen! I had no idea that you only came up with the idea to write your first book a year ago. Amazing! The Slammed series is one of my all time favorites. Congrats on much deserved success and I wish you many years to come. And of course, The Avett Brothers rock!!

  53. Had already read the Slammed series a while back and bought Hopeless thinking it was the third book of that series. What a fantastic mistake!!!! As a survivor this book touched my soul. Captured me in the beginning with the relationship so it wasn’t to deep to bear when it got intense— just perfect! I even tried changing my name in college never realizing that was an escape. Wow– love it love it. Colleen never stop writing!!

  54. This book is incredible. I could not put it down for a second. Raw, deep, heartfelt emotion. One of the greatest stories I have ever read. I am going to pray, hope and beg that there will be a follow up book!!

  55. This is the first book I read of your over Christmas break. It sure won’t be my last. I just finish Slammed & Point of retreat! fabulous books. I really enjoy your writing. Thank you for amazing books. :-)
