This scene is from the night Julia orders pizza and they all carve pumpkins.  We didn’t see the dinner conversation in SLAMMED, but in Will’s Story, he introduces them all to “Suck and Sweet” for the first time.

Just a tiny snippet!  And if you haven’t read Point of Retreat, this won’t make a lick of sense to you.

Lake and Julia both burst out laughing.  “Mrs. Alex has a crush on you?” Lake laughs.  “She’s…old.  And married!”

I smile and nod, suddenly embarrassed by my “suck” for the day.  I try to turn my focus back to Julia, but seeing Lake finally laughing is captivating.  It’s amazing how one smile from her can shift the mood of my entire day.   Lake sighs and leans back in her chair.  “So are you supposed to say a ‘sweet’ now?  Is that how this works?”

I nod, unable to take my eyes off of her. I reach for my glass, bringing it to my lips.  “My sweet is right now,” I say, right before I take a drink.
